Catjump Preschool proudly features many facilities to further enhance the children’s education and experiences throughout their kinder years. Focusing on sustainability, we aim to encourage the importance and appreciation of how to improve our quality of life for both now and long into the future.

By putting such simple practices into their everyday routines, children can develop a better understanding of how they can be proactive in maintaining better life habits.

Kitchen Garden

The children learn how to plant and tend to the growth of their own vegetables to understand the ‘farm to table’ concept in a way which is tangible and fun.

We then pick and prepare the vegetables together during our sessions using simple home-style recipes. This helps the children develop a basic understanding of how these ingredients combine to create an easy and nutritious meal, establishing the foundation of basic cooking skills.

Worm Farm

Our worm farm is a rewarding way of teaching the children how we can turn organic waste into fertiliser to feed their garden so they can better appreciate the value of the ecosystem and the bubbles of life within, while also being actively involved in their environment. In the words of one of the Catjump children... “I was putting some watermelon into the scrap yard worm farm because that is RECYLING and RE-USING and that is very helpful. The worms eat the scraps and make worm wee and we put it in the garden and that’s good for the world.”

Mud Kitchen

Designed and created with input from the children; the mud kitchen includes running water and is an excellent opportunity for the children to engage in organic activities. It also allows for young and inquisitive minds to explore the numerous possibilities through this type of creative play.

Friendship seat

Our friendship seat serves as a place of comfort for the children to take some time when experiencing unsettling feelings or a moment of overwhelm. The children are encouraged to reach out and sit with each other in this space to share their feelings or enjoy some down time with a friend.

It’s a naturally effective way of teaching the children how to be aware of others and their needs and nurture their sense of empathy.

Lizard sculpture

Our lizard sculpture has long been regarded as an iconic symbol of Catjump Preschool and serves as a meeting place for both children and parents alike to engage and establish meaningful connections. These simple interactions are critical to fostering a child’s sense of belonging to their little community.
